An Update from Bernie Grant Arts Centre
Bernie Grant Arts Centre is entering a period of strategic transformation. As you may know, for 17 years we have proudly served as a creative and cultural hub – supporting Black British talent, offering a platform for radical expression, and providing space for hundreds of artists, organisations, and community leaders.
Like many organisations in the arts, we are facing financial challenges and are having to respond. This has meant that we have had to make the difficult decision to pause new hires and some venue activity in order to reimagine our future from the ground up. This is not a closure, but a deliberate reset. One that will allow us to build a more sustainable and resilient centre that continues to serve our community for the next 50 years and beyond.
Here’s what this means in the short term:
- We are honouring all contracted bookings.
- We are not taking new hires or venue bookings at this time.
- We will communicate directly with all impacted clients, collaborators, and artists as we move through this period.
- Continuing to support creatives by offering subsidised spaces in our Enterprise Centre.
We want to be transparent with you, because your trust matters to us and hope to welcome you back in the future as part of our reimagined offer.
This moment is difficult, but we believe in the power and importance of the Centre’s mission and we are committed to preserving it, with care, creativity, and community at the heart.
Thank you for being part of our story, and for walking with us into this next chapter.
With sincere thanks,
BGAC Team
